Arkansas HousingRoughly, one in six of Arkansas families live in poverty and over half of all single parent families within the state live below poverty. More than one in four of all Arkansas households experience what is referred to as cost-burdened housing because they spend more than 30 percent of their income for housing costs. More than 40 percent of renter households spend over 30 percent of their monthly income for housing. Excessive housing costs affect all households especially young families, single-parent families and the elderly who are ether trying to buy a home or find an affordable place to rent.
