Dynamite™ Crapemyrtle
('Lagerstroemia indica 'Whit II')

Of the hundreds of crapemyrtle cultivars on the market today, Dynamite has the brightest crimson flowers of all crapemyrtles. The bright red, 12-inch long panicles of flowers are often flecked with white and produced during an extended period during the summer. It is a small tree that reaches 20 feet in height, making it well suited for use as a small summer flowering specimen or courtyard tree. In north Arkansas, crapemyrtles may freeze back once in 10 years and will seldom reach maximum size there. Like all crapemyrtles, it is well adapted to our summer heat and humidity and provides blooms during the hottest days of summer. Dynamite has excellent powdery mildew resistance. It was developed by Dr. Carl Whitcomb in central Oklahoma.

  • Height: 20 feet, multi-trunked tree.
  • Spread: 8 feet. Exposure: Plant with at least 6 hours of full sun.
  • Hardiness: Hardy statewide, but in severe winters may freeze to the ground in the north.
  • Planting Season: Best planted in spring or summer.
  • Culture: Adapted to any well drained soil and extremely drought tolerant once established.
