The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service and the Department of Horticulture, in cooperation with the Arkansas Green Industry Association, launched the Arkansas Select program in 1998. The program is designed to identify plants that are especially well suited for Arkansas’ varied gardening conditions.

The panel of experts that nominate the plants represent both academic and nursery professionals and are from all regions of the state. For a plant to be included in the Arkansas Select program, it must be available through normal nursery channels but still be somewhat new or underused in Arkansas gardens. Only plants that do well throughout the state win the nod as Arkansas Select plants. Look for Arkansas Select plants at your better greenhouses and nurseries throughout the state.
