Dragonwing Begonia
Begonia 'Dragon Wing'

An exciting new hybrid begonia, a cross between the angelwing begonia and the wax begonia, has been developed by breeders at PanAmerican Seed Company in Costa Rica. This vigorous, glossy green plant is covered with big, bright-red blooms all summer and thrives wherever planted. It is ideal for container gardens, bedding in the sunny or shady border or as an accent plant in the flower border.

  • Height: 18 to 24 inches.
  • Spread: Upright growing 8 to 10 inches.
  • Hardiness: The plant is an annual.
  • Planting Season: Plant after the likelihood of frost is past.
  • Cultural Comments: This tough plant will grow in full sun but is probably at its best in a location protected from the afternoon sun. Dragonwing Begonia will grow in shaded sites too. This plant is excellent in containers. It grows best in a well-prepared, organic-amended soil that can be watered during dry weather. To keep the plant growing, feed on a monthly basis with a liquid flower fertilizer.
