New Gold Lantana
Lantana camara 'New Gold'
New Gold Lantana is one of the best summer annuals for Arkansas gardens. It
loves the heat of summer and is covered with 2-inch clusters of yellow-gold
blooms from the first hot days of spring until the first killing frost. Lantana
is great for use in color beds, containers on the patio or in hanging baskets.
If grown in containers, be prepared to keep it watered and fertilize it once a
month but otherwise it is trouble free. Butterflies love this plant for its
nectar. Unlike some Lantana selections, New Gold seldom sets berries.
-
Height: 12 inches.
-
Spread: 24 inches.
-
Sun: Full sun.
-
Hardiness: Plant in spring after the threat of last
frost. In protected parts of southern Arkansas, plants may overwinter.
-
Cultural Comments: Allow the soil to warm before
planting New Gold Lantana and then water to get it established. Once it is
established, it will thrive in any reasonable well-drained garden soil. If
plants get too large, just cut them back as needed.
