MelampodiumMelampodium is a wildflower that grew up in the dry country of Texas. It has bright yellow, quarter-sized double daisy like flowers. The petals naturally drop as the flowers age, so there is no need to dead-head the flowers, which keep coming on all season long. Plant it outside after all chances of frost have passed. It will really kick in and grow as the soil temperature warms up. It prefers full sun, and is relatively drought hardy once established, however, like all plants, would benefit from supplemental watering during dry spells. The three most readily available varieties are ‘Derby’ which grows 8 - 10 inches tall and wide, ‘Showstar’ 12- 14 inches tall and ‘Medallion’ 14 - 16 inches tall.
