Weeds - Morning Glory
Back to Weeds

'Q' (Question)  (October) Does morning glory grow as a weed? I have a vine invading my rose bushes that has brilliant blue, trumpet shaped flowers that are only open in the morning and tri-lobed leaves. It is very aggressive and pulls the canes of my roses down toward the ground. I keep pulling it up by the roots, and yet it keeps coming back. How do I get rid of it?

'A' (Answer)  Morning glory can become weed-like. Keep in mind, one mans weeds are another mans wildflowers. Morning glories are prolific seeders, and the seeds don't always stay where you want them. Pull them up as you can, since any sprays that would kill them would also damage your roses. Morning glories are annuals, meaning the plant will die with a frost, but if it has already set seeds, these will sprout next summer. You could use a pre-emergent herbicide next spring to prevent more seedlings.
