(May)
I recently bought a bush that was not labeled beyond "Gold Star Esperanza". I
can't find anything about it online. Are you familiar with it or can you point
me toward a resource for my own research? Can you help me? I know it wasn't the
best idea to buy the plant without instructions but it had the most beautiful
yellow tubular flowers.
Gold Star Esperanza is Tecoma stans 'Gold Star'. It is a wonderful heat-tolerant Texas native, with beautiful masses of yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers. It should be a great blooming plant all summer. Fertilize regularly throughout the growing season and water when dry. There are no pests that I know of. It will be a great container plant, or could be used in the ground, but it will not be winter hardy.
