Trees- Persimmons
Back to Trees

'Q' (Question)  Enclosed are some leaves from a small grove of trees in my yard that we have always identified as male persimmon trees--they have never born fruit. The trees are about 40 years old, 40- 50 feet in height. Large limbs die and fall to the ground year round. Sprouts come up all over the yard. The sprouts are a nuisance and must constantly be cut or they will take over the yard. However, we like The trees. Are they persimmons?

'A' (Answer)  The trees are persimmons. They do have the tendency to sucker, which is what is giving you all the sprouts. I have not known them to shed limbs, however. Have your trees dead-wooded, to prevent the limbs from decaying and falling.
