Many people find the fruit of Bois D' Arc, Hedge Apple, or Osage Orange, (Maclura pomifera) to be fairly messy. However, some people are sold on them as a natural insecticide--especially for roaches. Many gardeners set the fruits around basements, garages, etc. Supposedly there is a natural insecticidal property to the fruit, and many insects are repelled by it. I would recommend putting the fruits in a disposable plastic bowl or something else to rest them on, since when they deteriorate, they are quite messy. They are not edible, but supposedly squirrels like the seeds inside.
