  (July) What kind of evergreen tree, besides Leyland cypress, can I plant for a quick growing, tall screen? Will Thuja sp. thrive in NW Arkansas? I'm looking for something that will not shed needles or cones (pool area). Thanks!

  Thuja will grow in Northwest Arkansas. While there are other varieties of Thuja on the market, the Green Giant Arborvitae is a fast growing plant and will give you a quick screen. It is quickly becoming a replacement plant for Leyland cypress. While many still like the Leyland cypress, disease problems have been a limiting factor. Even though leaf or needle shed may not be prolific, all plants will shed some old foliage from time to time.
