Shrubs - Deutzia
Back to Shrubs

'Q' (Question)  The enclosed sample is from a bush that is seven to eight feet tall. It was planted on some old property about fifty years ago. It has lovely white flowers, but we have never found anyone who knows the name of it. Could you help us please?

'A' (Answer)  The plant in question is deutzia, an old-fashioned plant that seems to be making a come-back. It is pretty from late April through mid May. After that, it is a fairly non-descript green shrub. It is a tough plant which does well in sun or light shade, good soil or poor. Prune after bloom. There are numerous varieties that vary in height. Yours is a double-flowered variety, but singles and even pink ones are available.
