Shrubs - Clethra
Back to Shrubs

'Q' (Question)  (December) About a month ago I received a clethra plant I had ordered through a catalog . I planted it in a shady area on the front of my house which faces north. It is planted in the top soil which was put in our yard when we had grass installed, but I did add a good bit of compost. Some of the leaves are turning yellow and I am concerned. These were somewhat pricey shrubs and I hate to lose them.

'A' (Answer)  Clethra plants are deciduous, which means they lose their leaves in the fall. They often will turn yellow before they drop. There should be nothing to worry about. Mine lost all their leaves several weeks ago. The plant should still leaf out nicely next spring.
