I am enclosing leaves from an Aronia plant. Each spring, they produce nice green
healthy leaves, but by July and August, the leaves develop spots and start
falling off. The plant gets full sun and heavy wind from the lake we live on.
What can we do to prevent the July/August condition?
Aronia’s or Choke cherries are usually pretty hardy plants, suffering from few problems. There is a leaf spot disease and a gray mold that can affect them. Since yours gets the same disease each year, try this for one season. Be sure to rake up all fallen leaves and mulch from around the plant now. Spray with a dormant oil sometime from now through March. Then this summer, you have two options-- either use a preventative fungicide spray starting in late June or watch and spray at the first sign of a problem. Some possible sprays would be Daconil, Funginex or Bayleton. Good luck.
