Pests - Crawfish
Back to Pests

'Q' (Question)  My family tells me that the inch and a half to two inches holes in my backyard with small piles of mud next to them are crawfish holes. Could this be true or are they just teasing me? If these holes and mounds of squishy mud (sticks to your shoes and gets tracked inside) are from crawfish, how do I get rid of them. If not, what are they and how do I get rid of them?

'A' (Answer)  It sounds like crawfish to me. If you have crawfish mounds, it means you have bad internal drainage. If you dig a hole, you should be able to find standing water very quickly. The only way to offset the problem permanently is to solve the drainage problem. This can be done by finding out where the water is coming from and either putting in drains, or french drains, or change the slope.
