I have been puzzled
for years by these wild violets in my yard. I cannot find them in any flower
book. They are abundant in my yard and have the prettiest yellow flowers. Can
you tell me what they are? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
There are several yellow flowered violets, including Smooth yellow violet--Viola pensylvanica, early yellow violet-Viola rotundifolia and Viola hastata. They are all shade loving (at least partial shade) and like a moist, humus rich environment. Violets are a wonderful plant for the woodland garden, but can become a tad invasive if you’re not careful.
