Perennials - Sedum
Back to Perennials

'Q' (Question)  Enclosed is a plant which came up in the front of the house we bought this year. It was a mystery from the beginning, but we left it to "just see what we had". It is still a mystery. The plant grew about 10 inches tall. The bloom head starts out white and green and gradually becomes a dark rust color. The blooms attract a multitude of butterflies and other insects. It grows in full sun. Can you identify this plant?

'A' (Answer)  The plant in question is a fall blooming sedum. There are numerous varieties on the market, with the Autumn Joy being the most common. Other varieties include 'Brilliant', 'Carmen' and Meteor'. These are tough plants which do best in a relatively dry area.
