Perennials - Coreopsis
Back to Perennials

'Q' (Question)  (December) I have coreopsis in my garden that is 2 years old, planted in the fall of 2001. It blooms from mid-May through June. I have been told that I need to divide the plants. When and how do I do this?

'A' (Answer)  You can divide summer blooming perennials in the spring or fall. If you know they need dividing you could still do it now. Be sure to protect the roots if you do it now, so you don't expose them to too cold of a temperature or to drying winds. Replant as soon as possible. You can also divide them as they begin to emerge in the spring. Dig up the clump and separate them using a sharp knife or straight-edged shovel.
