We have discovered a mucus type substance on our mums and marigolds, recently.
What can be causing it? It is not the trail of a slug. Help with a remedy.
My guess, is that you have spittle bugs. These insects have a frothy -- spittle type of protection around them to help protect them from insecticides. They are sucking insects, and usually look worse than they are. If you have heavy populations, and they are causing damage, use a systemic insecticide such as orthene. Try hosing the plants down first and see what happens.
