Insects - Armyworms
Back to Insects

'Q' (Question)  How do I get rid of armyworms and the webs they form? This year my problem got much worse.

'A' (Answer)  There are two types of caterpillars that we are plagued with that form large webs or tents in our trees. They are the Eastern tent caterpillar and the fall webworm. Both cause more aesthetic damage than permanent harm to the trees. Collect the webs when you see them if they are reachable. Putting bands of sticky substances such as tanglefoot around the base of the trees can catch some before they move up the trees. Sprays of Sevin or BT can also be effective if you spray into the web and on the surrounding foliage.
