Houseplants - Tiger's Jaw
Back to Houseplants

'Q' (Question)  I am desperate!! I have a ‘tiger claw’ plant that I need repotting advice. The pot is wrapped in what could be roots. Any advice?

'A' (Answer)  The only plant that I could come up with a name similar to ‘tiger claw’ is Tiger’s Jaw -- Faucaria tigrina, a succulent short stemmed plant with teeth along the margin of the leaves. I can’t imagine this plant having that many roots wrapped around the outside of the pot. Lift up or lightly cut whatever is wrapping around the pot, and lift up the plant. If it appears that they are roots, it is not going to hurt to have some cut back. If the roots inside the pot are packed in as well, cut them back or at least trim some off to reduce the root-bound effect. Then repot in either the same size container with fresh soil, or a slightly larger pot.
