Annuals - Lemon Grass
Back to Annuals

'Q' (Question) (October)

I have three large lemon grass plants in my garden. With fall here, what are some of my options? I plan to dry some of the grass for tea. Should I cut them back and leave them in the ground for next year? Should I put them in a pot and bring them inside?

Should I grow new ones every year?

'A' (Answer) Lemon grass is not winter hardy in Arkansas. You can cut it back and put it in a pot and put it under your house, or in the garage where it won't freeze, or you can pot it up and bring it indoors for the winter. Next spring, you can divide it when you replant outside. They should be fairly easy to over winter.
